Year after year, Converse takes the lead in celebrating underrepresented communities. From their annual LGBTQIA+ capsule to Earth Day initiatives, the Boston-based brand now pays tribute to Latin Heritage Month with the unveiling of their "Mi Gente" collection.
This collection subtly nods to Latinx heritage and tradition through two iconic Converse models: the One Star Pro and the Chuck Taylor All Star. Headlining the campaign is the emerging Converse skater, Erik Herrera, and his family, who pay homage to the powerful qualities associated with Latin American voices and families: strength, hard work, and optimism.
Designed by Converse's Latin American team members, both the limited-edition sneakers draw inspiration from healing, protection, and premonition. The One Star Pro features a tonal, burnished brown upper, a nod to the tradition of reading coffee grounds. The tongue of the shoe connects to the Black Butterfly, symbolizing migration and transformation.
The other half of the collection embraces the healing properties of plants. Chamomile flower, aloe, and linden tea flower designs gracefully wrap across the canvas upper, accompanied by a subtle mint footbed. Both pairs are adorned with metallic silver "Sana, Sana" lace keepers—a Latinx message of encouragement and resilience.
Don't miss out on the 2023 Converse "Mi Gente" collection, available online starting this Friday, September 15th. In the meantime, take a closer look at both the One Star Pro and Chuck Taylor All Star below. Get ready to celebrate Latin Heritage Month in style!
